Bring your bike!
All MTA buses are equipped with bike racks to carry up to two conventional single seat, two-wheeled bicycles.
Bikes are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers wishing to transport bikes are responsible for loading and unloading their bicycles. If you want to practice before your first ride, contact Mason Transit at 360-427-5033.
If the bike rack is full, you may ask the driver if there is space inside the bus for your bike. If approved, you must remain with the bike throughout the trip to ensure that it is secure at all times. If a person using a wheelchair boards the bus, you will be asked to move your bike to the outside if space is available or exit the bus.
When loading your bicycle in the bike rack:
- Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the bike rack.
- Squeeze the rack handle and gently lower the rack.
- Place your bike in the rear most open space.
- Grasp the “J-Hook” and pull out then slide it over the front tire so it rests on the top of your front tire.
- Once your bike is secure, you may board the bus.
- When you get to your destination, let the driver know you are going to retrieve your bike.
- Remove your bike in the reverse order you secured it.
- After removing your bike, if there are no other bikes on the rack, lift the rack up until it clicks into place.
- Move your bike and belongings to the curb so the bus can pass.
Remember:
- Bikes must not exceed 55 lbs.
- The bike’s tires must not be wider than 2 3/16” (approximately 2.188”) to fit safely in the bike rack.
- Electric bikes are allowed on the bus’s bike rack if they are the standard size appropriate for those racks.
- Electric bikes or their batteries, are not allowed inside the bus.
- If you forget your bike, it will be placed into Lost & Found at the Transit-Community Center.
