Riding The Bus

RIDING THE BUS

Through a combination of Routed and Dial-A-Ride services, community residents can access employment, education, social service appointments, medical and health care services, participate in meal programs and recreational/senior center activities and go shopping.   With reasonable personal assistance for persons with limited physical mobility, every effort is made to delivering timely and appropriate service.

All Mason Transit Route and Dial-A-Ride buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Call Request - Stops marked in the timetable with "PHONE" are locations where you can request an additional stop along the route. Call the Customer Service Center at least two (2) hours before the approximate pick-up time to request.

Flag Stops - You may wait for the bus at scheduled stops, or you may flag the bus along the route. To do this, pick a safe location on the same side of the road the bus is traveling and where the bus can pull completely off the road. When you see the bus approaching, start signaling with an overhead wave of the arm or a flashlight when it is dark or foggy. Allow plenty of time for the driver to see you.

Bicycles - All Mason Transit vehicles are equipped with bike racks. Riders are responsible for loading and unloading their own bikes. Please remove packs and panniers before the bus arrives. If bike racks are full, it is up to the discretion of the driver to allow the bike to be brought on board the bus. This depends on passenger loads and the effect it may have on the safety of our passengers. It may be necessary to ask you to take the next bus if there is an overload. Cyclists are responsible for handling and assuring the security of their bikes, and must hold them in the wheelchair securement area throughout the trip.

Children - Children must be 8 years old or older to ride unaccompanied on Mason Transit.
Children aged 7 and younger must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Packages - To ensure plenty of room for our riders and everyone's safety, refrain from bringing extra large, heavy, or odd size items on MTA that cannot fit between seats or be secured.  Passengers will be responsible for loading and unloading any single item/package weighing more than 40 pounds.

Lost & Found - If you lose an item on the bus, call the Business Office.  Every effort is made to return wallets, purses and medications as soon as possible using information in or on the item.  All other found items can be picked up the next day after 10:00 AM.  Please call before you come to make sure we've found your lost item.  Mason Transit is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
